creativity and innovation

This is a video we made that depicts a day in the life of a football player at UGA. It is filmed in the days leading up to the South Carolina game and the following day.

Horizon Report

I definitely feel that classrooms will need to change in the near future. Actually I believe they need to have already changed.  With the technology that kids have in front of them as they grow up it is putting them at a serious disadvantage to go to a classroom that uses a projector as its big piece of technology and listen to a teacher talk about one topic.  I feel that since technology is more cloud based now and since you can be on the Internet almost anywhere, I feel that classrooms need to be moved around to different places throughout the week so that students have a different view than plain colored walls everyday.  Also I believe that Teachers need to continue to incorporate Internet learning and group work for class because that is how people work in the world outside of the classroom so that is a skill that students need to learn and be good at before they get out of school.

Creativity 2

Over the last couple of days I have tried to make a new sheath for one of my knives because I did not like the one that it came with.  I was at hobby lobby with my girlfriend and saw a leather working section so I went and looked and they had the leather parts that I needed to try and make my own.  It didn't go as I would like and it isn't quite how I want it to be so I am going to have to keep working on my leather working skills.

Creativity

This past weekend I sprained my ankle during the FAU game.  Along with spraining your ankle comes swelling which causes you to lose flexibility and making it take longer to return to playing, so my creative activity was to use the cushions from half of my couch to lift the half of the couch I was staying on for the rest of the weekend at the foot of it so that my leg would stay elevated and keep as much swelling out as possible.

Learning and leading May 2011

1) Fluency, Flexibility, Originality, Elaboration
2) The hardest one of these aspects for me to be good at is elaboration.  I struggle with elaboration because my mind works off of the exact details of events and I am a concise writer which makes adding fluff to stories hard for me.
3) I would think that reading more blogs and seeing the details that other people add to stories and try and remember and learn from them so as to help with my own elaboration.
4) I would use Scribblar to help with fluency in my classroom, or pintrest for my female students to help students come up with ideas.

Hobby

My biggest hobby is to play call of duty.  I enjoy playing call of duty in my free time as a way to relax after busy days in my life.  My favorite version to play at the moment is modern warfare 3 but I am excited for the release of black ops 2 in November.

Meaningful Learning

Meaningful Learning

The topic from the reading that I agree with the most is the idea that the education system for K-12 is set up to teach kids how to take the standardized tests and what material will be on those tests which in turn limits students' ability to work with their fellow students.  This form of single form teaching that the United States has so readily adopted to keep government funding has led to a whole generation of students graduating from high school with having learned nothing that truly applies to their lives.  By making the whole education system about the individual students scores on the standardized tests that seem to keep increasing in length and frequency for the young scholars of this country we are robbing their young minds of the creativity and meaningful learning that can take place both in group settings and when a child is allowed to find topics that they want to learn about and have the chance to explore and find information and knowledge out for themselves about a topic that applies to their lives.  When a child is able to learn about things that interest them and a teacher has the freedom in their curriculum to teach those topics and connect other topics to the selected topic it leads to much more meaningful learning as well as fostering a deep desire in the student to continue searching for information and different ways to link it to their lives.
